Thanksgiving

Although not many people might be reading this post I just want to give thanks to Hypercoat Enterprises for organising the Meguiar's Car Care Clinic held yesterday morning which was an absolute blast. Hassan, the trainer in-charge was very knowledgeable and may I say eloquent as well which kinda came as a surprise.

Basically what happened was he gave a small presentation which summarised what I have learnt in the past 4 to 5 years in about 1.5hours? I also gained a lot of valuable insight and advice from him from the Q&A session so thanks to Hassan!

This is such a win-win situation, consumers get the low-down on the 'physics behind detailing' while the retailers enjoy brisk sales from the brilliant marketing strategy. Wonderful stuff from Meguiar's, arguably the largest car care company in the world today!

Cheers

Wheels

Many people seem to forget about washing their wheels when they wash their car. As a result, brake dust, tar, road grime build up and eventually cake up on the surface of the wheel. Over an extended period of time, you will find that normal washing techniques, tools and products will not be able to get rid of these unsightly stains. What was once silver will look a dirty bronze.

Here's a pic of a severely neglected wheel found on a Mercedes E200. It looks like it has been to hell and back again.

You may not believe it but this is after a concentrated cleaner soak, agitation by brush, shampooed again by normal sponge and a final water rinsing. The only way I think I can bring back this wheel to 'life' is by manual hand polishing but I would have to charge the client extra so..

'Cmi' uncle

Today the 'cmi' uncle asked me 'Wow you did half the bonnet already, wax already ah?'

On hearing me reply no, he was puzzled as to why I didn't want to wax it.

'Cmi' uncle is relatively old school and does not understand the difference between a polish, glaze or wax. The only thing he knows is, waxing will make the paint very shiny. He has absolutely no idea why I'm spending half a day to polish a vehicle when he can do it in less than 1 hour.

End of the day, if the quality of my work is poorer than 'cmi' uncle's, I should really heed his advice and use his 'really crappy' products. Don't see that day coming anytime soon though~

1st post

Welcome,

Firstly, thanks for viewing this site. This site will attempt to introduce what we at Project M do as well as to dispense little tidbits of information on how to maintain and protect the condition of your beloved cars.

A little bit on myself, I personally took up detailing as a weekend hobby when my dad got a new car. From a Subaru Impreza (97-04) we changed to a Mazda 6 (2003) and the paint was a splendid red (Velocity Red) with lots of mica flakes in it.

I noticed how great the paint looked under bright sunlight and was determined to keep the car paint in pristine condition. After trying out a rather expensive PPS (paint protection system) that did absolutely NOTHING to protect the paint, I searched online and it was from then on, I delved deeper and deeper into the world of detailing.

Its my great hope that someday end consumers will understand and know what's going on when they send their cars for grooming/detailing/polishing.

Best Regards,
Jeremiah @ Project_M
